Hepplewhite Mahogany Secretary Desk - Inv. #10507

Stunning and majestic hepplewhite figured mahogany and mahogany veneer secretary desk, with arched cove molded pediment with brass bezel framed round inset mirror, above a cabinet section with richly crossbanded interlaced mahogany mullions, set on a tambour desk section with arcaded cubbys and drawers with fold down writing board, above three graduated drawers set on square tapering legs. Rich crossbanded herringbone veneer patterns overall and original lion mask brasses. Probably Providence, RI, circa 1790-95.

Provenance: James B. Shultas, b. Hartford CT October 6, 1805; thence to Daniel Wadsworth (1771–1848) of Hartford, Connecticut, American arts patron and founder of The Wadsworth Athenaeum; thence to William B. Imlay (Hartford); Estate of Judith Stanley Coleman, Red Bank, NJ.
